The Tyler Moniz Project
The Tyler Moniz Project was launched to celebrate the life of Tyler Moniz, who we lost to suicide in April 2016 when he was 21 years old. We carry out this mission by creating awareness about suicide and depression, especially in young people. Because suicide is the leading cause of death in young people in Kitsap County, we are focused on bringing a crisis text line to the island as well as increased crisis counseling services. We also host community programs like support groups for families affected by suicide as well as educational lectures and discussions. And because we are committed to supporting ideas that promote happiness, well-being, and hope, we have introduced bright blue TMP Conversation Benches to local parks and schools. TMP also sponsors two annual scholarships for BHS students who consistently demonstrate kindness and sportsmanship. We are a non-profit 501(c)(3) charitable organization.
Other projects include:
-
A Grief Support Group for parents and grandparents who have lost a child. We also have a support group for families that have had a member attempt suicide.
-
The Tyler Moniz Scholarships are awarded each year for kindness and sportsmanship to Bainbridge Island high school students.
-
We have placed Tyler Treasures around Bainbridge Island in hopes that you will find one and take it home as a reminder that you’re important to someone.
